US Tax · for Americans in Germany

US taxes, handled from the Frankfurt Area — by an IRS Enrolled Agent.

Still a US citizen, but your life is in Germany? You almost certainly still have to file with the IRS. And if you're not American but earn US income — a rental, a business, investments — you may have to file too. I make it simple, compliant, and double-taxation-proof — so you can stop dreading tax season.

What I do

Everything an American in Germany needs

One Enrolled Agent for your full US filing picture — federal returns, foreign-account reporting, and getting back on track if you've fallen behind.

Annual US Federal Returns

Form 1040 prepared correctly for your life abroad — using the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion or Foreign Tax Credit to keep your US bill as low as legally possible.

FBAR & FATCA Reporting

Foreign accounts over $10,000 combined? I handle your FinCEN 114 (FBAR) and Form 8938 so nothing gets missed — the part that trips up most expats.

Streamlined Catch-Up

Years behind? The IRS Streamlined Procedures let many expats get compliant — often penalty-free. I'll guide you through it calmly, start to finish.

Self-Employed & Freelancers

Earning $400+ on your own means you must file. I navigate both the US side and how it meets your German Einkommensteuer.

Double-Taxation Strategy

FEIE vs. Foreign Tax Credit, the US–Germany treaty, the Totalization Agreement — I pick the combination that actually saves you money.

Year-Round Questions

Moving, marrying, investing, or starting a business? Get clear answers before you act — not a surprise next April.

Good to know

Questions Americans in Germany actually ask

Do I really have to file a US return if I live in Germany?
In almost all cases, yes. The US taxes based on citizenship, not residence, so US citizens and Green Card holders generally file every year regardless of where they live — even if no tax is owed.
Will I be taxed twice — by the US and Germany?
Usually not. Tools like the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, the Foreign Tax Credit, and the US–Germany tax treaty exist to prevent double taxation. The right combination depends on your situation — that's exactly what I optimise for you.
What is FBAR and do I need it?
If your foreign financial accounts together exceeded $10,000 at any point in the year, you must file an FBAR (FinCEN Form 114). It's a report, not a tax — but penalties for missing it can be steep, so it's worth getting right.
I haven't filed in years. Am I in trouble?
Probably less than you fear. The IRS Streamlined Filing Procedures let many expats catch up — often without penalties — by filing the last few years of returns and FBARs. We handle it calmly, together.
How much does it cost?
You get a clear, flat-fee quote after a free intro call — no surprise hourly bills. The price depends on the forms your situation actually needs, and you approve it before any work starts.
I'm not a US citizen — do I still need to file?
Possibly. Non-US persons with US-source income — rental property, a US business, certain investments or capital gains — often have to file a US non-resident return (Form 1040-NR). I'll tell you exactly what applies to your situation.
Do we need to meet in person?
No — there's no need to meet in person. We work together fully remotely: calls, documents, and signatures all run through a secure channel, whether you're in the Frankfurt Area, elsewhere in Germany, or abroad.
